Membership Terms and Conditions

  • Access to UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre is by photographic ID Access Card. I consent to my name and photo image being displayed on the access card and on the monitor at access points.
  • The Access Card is not transferrable it is not to be used by any person other than the person it is issued to and remains the property of UNSW Sport and Recreation at all times.
  • Memberships and Multi-Visit Passes are not transferrable.
  • You must have your Access Card with you and on display when using the facilities.
  • Replacement Access Cards will incur a $5 administration fee. Forgotten cards will incur a $2 administration fee.
  • 10-Visit and 20-Visit passes expire 12 months from date of purchase.
  • Student prices are only available to: UNSW and other university students, UNSW staff, school children, people with disabilities & seniors (upon presentation of appropriate identification)
  • Term memberships may be upgraded within 14 days of purchase. This is not applicable to 10 visit passes.
  • Where a person purchases a membership for a period of three months or more, there is a seven day cooling-off period from the date the membership contract is signed during which the person may terminate the membership. The cooling-off period does not apply where a membership is renewed.
  • A person who terminates a membership contract within the cooling-off period must give written notice to UNSW Sport and Recreation, attaching a copy of the membership contract.
  • Where UNSW Sport and Recreation has provided services to a person before the person terminates the membership contract, UNSW Sport and Recreation may deduct from the amount refunded the cost of any service provided including a reasonable administration charge.
  • A membership may be suspended 3 times for a minimum period of 7 days and a maximum period of 6 months per suspension. (Applicable to memberships of 3 months and greater). Suspensions will not be backdated.
  • Direct Debit customers can suspend their membership 3 times over the period of 1 year for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 6 months per suspension. Suspensions are permitted in monthly blocks only and will incur a fee of $5 per month payable in advance. A suspension application form may be obtained from Reception.
  • Membership/Pass refunds will only be considered on the basis of compassionate grounds and/or physical incapacity verified by a medical certificate.
  • For your enjoyment and safety, patrons are asked to follow directions from UNSW Sport and Recreation staff regarding the use and operation of all UNSW Sport and Recreation equipment and facilities.
  • Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the cancellation of your membership/pass and no refunds are applicable.

Weights / Cardio

Cardio Equipment

  • Cardio equipment must not be used by children under 14 years. Children aged 14 – 16 years must be accompanied by an adult and a parent/guardian must sign the application form.
  • Children aged 16 – 18 years must have a parent/guardian sign the application form.

Weights Equipment

  • Weights equipment must not be used by children under 16 years. Children aged 16 – 18 years must have a parent/guardian sign the application form.

General Rules

  • A Medical Practitioner or certified trainer must clear existing medical conditions before undertaking any exercise in the weights/cardio area.
  • All casual visitors are required to sign-in and display their access card wearing a lanyard when using the weights/ cardio area.
  • For hygiene reasons, towels are compulsory, so please bring your own towel. Towels are also available for purchase and hire at reception. No towel no entry.
  • Access cards must be visible at all times, lanyards are available at reception.
  • Please wipe down equipment after use. Cleaning materials are available. Please ask weights room supervisor.
  • Bags are not permitted in the weights/cardio room.
  • Minimum clothing standard is shorts, singlets and enclosed sports footwear. No street clothing is permitted.
  • Workouts on the cardio equipment are limited to 30-minutes during busy periods.
  • Consider other users by not sitting on equipment during your rest periods.
  • Replace all free weights after use. A tidy gym is a safe gym.
  • Do not drop or bang your weights unnecessarily.
  • Only water or sports drinks may be consumed in the Weights/Cardio room.
  • No facilities may be used for the purpose of private tuition, personal training or coaching - whether paid or not.
  • Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the cancellation of your membership/pass and no refunds are applicable.

Fitness Classes

  • A Medical Practitioner must clear existing medical conditions before undertaking any fitness class.
  • All casual visitors are required to sign-in and display their access card when entering any fitness class.
  • Access cards are required for entry to all fitness classes.
  • For personal safety and comfort, class limits apply.
  • Minimum clothing standard is shorts, singlets and enclosed sports footwear. No street clothing is permitted.
  • Entry to classes is permitted 15-minutes prior to the start. For safety reasons no late entries (after warm up has been completed) will be allowed.
  • Aqua class tokens are available from reception half an hour prior to the start of a class.
  • Due to health & safety reasons, towels are compulsory for all mat work.
  • No bags are permitted in the fitness studios.
  • Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the cancellation of your membership/pass and no refunds are applicable.

Pool & Steam Room

  • An adult must accompany children under the age of 16 years at all times.
  • Steam Room Restrictions: Children under the age of 16 years are not permitted entry to the steam room.
  • All customers must shower prior to entering the water.
  • No: running, pushing, bombing. No diving in the shallow end.
  • Do not leave money or valuables unattended - please use complimentary lockers (Report any theft or emergency to pool staff immediately).
  • Do not sit or climb on lane ropes.
  • Strictly lap swimming in lane areas, except in splash and giggle.
  • Only water or sports drinks in plastic containers can be consumed in the pool area.
  • Use of hand paddles is only permitted in privately hired lanes. They are not permitted in public lanes.
  • No lanes, hired or otherwise, may be used for the purpose of private tuition or coaching/learn to swim whether paid or not.
  • Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the cancellation of your membership/pass and no refunds are applicable.
