UNSW Student Gabrielle King Wins NSWIS Academic Achievement Award

Sailor and UNSW Ben Lexcen Scholar, Gabrielle King has taken out the NSW Institute of Sport Academic Excellence Award for 2011. This is the third time in four years that a UNSW student has won the award with Johnno Cotterill (Water polo) B Commerce (Liberal Studies) winning it in 2008 and 2010.

Gabrielle is studying a combined Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science at UNSW. This year she has studied six subjects, earning four high distinctions, a distinction and a credit. In addition Gabrielle completed PSYCH1001 and was ranked #1 out of over 1000 students whilst balancing her sailing campaign which takes her out of the class room for a considerable period of time.

She added to her strong educational endeavours with a sixth place finish in the women’s laser radial at the German leg of the 2010/11 ISAF Sailing World Cup, and recently finished 14th at Sail Melbourne in the laser radial in a strong international fleet. Gabrielle is setting herself for the ISAF World Championships in Perth from 3rd to 18th December.
